Based on the novel by Shirley Jackson, this film has an all-star cast consisting of Taissa Farmiga, Alexandra Daddario, Crispin Glover, and Sebastian Stan. It’s your basic family drama where a family tragedy happens, and the two girls live with their uncle in isolation until their cousin comes to try and steal the family fortune.

Merricat (Farmiga) and Constance (Daddario) and the uncle (Glover) are hated by the town. It’s so bad that Merricat gets chased and heckled by the town children. The rumor going around town was that Constance was the one that poisoned her mother and father.

Charles, the cousin, is played by Sebastian Stan. The introduction of Charles shifts the family dynamic to the point that Merricat attempts to sling some magic to fix everything and remove Charles from their home.

Whoever did the casting for these parts did an excellent job.

The interesting thing about this film is that there’s so many secrets woven throughout the plot. When Charles steps onto the scene, those secrets start to come undone. It’ll really keep you guessing right up until the end.
