For tonight I went with an animated fantasy/horror film called The Spine of Night starring Richard E. Grant (The Guardian), Patton Oswalt (Lord Pyrantin), Jordan Douglas Smith (Ghal-Sur), and Xena herself Lucy Lawless (Tzod).

The first thing I want to warn you all about is the fact that clothing is just about non-existent in this film. I wasn’t prepared to see animated naked people (full-frontal naked people) so you all should be prepared if you venture down my path.

The second thing that you should try to get past is animation. It’s… not the best, but I think it’s because they were going for the 1980’s vibe. If that’s the case, then okay I get it.

The third thing I’ll warn y’all about is that it is ultra-violent. Even for an animated movie, this film has a ton of blood, gore, and disturbing visuals.

The voice acting was superb. I loved Richard E. Grant, Lucy Lawless, and Jordan Douglas Smith’s performances the best. They’re the main three characters in the film so you hear their voices more than the others.

The overall plot was great. I loved the lore of the world. This epic fantasy is set in a land of magic that follows heroes from different eras and cultures battling against a malevolent force. IMDb doesn’t really give us a detailed summary, does it? Getting a bit more in depth, Ghal-Sur and Tzod get mixed up with the crazy arrogant Lord Pyrantin and there’s this ultimate power that gets abused and a magical tyrant is created. Tzod has to figure out a way to stop the tyrant.

Overall, a great animated movie with great voice acting. I would’ve liked to see more clothes on more of the characters, but that’s just details, I guess.
